San Joaquin Valley

Unsafe tap water can be found in nearly every California county, but agricultural areas like the San Joaquin Valley are disproportionately impacted by contamination and drought. Many of these communities are home to farmworkers and have endured decades of neglect for basic needs like safe drinking water.

Community Power

We build community power by partnering directly with impacted residents in the San Joaquin Valley, uniting through the AGUA Coalition (Asociación de Gente Unida por el Agua) and the Community Water Leaders Network (CWLN). While AGUA is a regional, grassroots coalition of impacted community residents, CWLN is composed of elected officials at water decision-making agencies. Members of both groups are dedicated to securing safe, clean, and affordable drinking water for the San Joaquin Valley.

Safe Water Projects

Whether it’s drilling new drinking water wells or consolidating failing water systems with nearby systems that have clean water, CWC partners with communities, such as East Orosi, West Goshen and Avenue 412, to find the right long-term solutions that work best for their needs.

Policy

CWC takes what we learn from residents to shape our policy priorities. Funding for safe water projects, drought planning and protecting groundwater from pollution, for example, have all been driven by resident leaders’ voices in the San Joaquin Valley.
