May eNews: Communities demand protection for their future

Para español, haz clic aqui

Dear Supporter,

This May we witnessed yet again the power communities have when they come together to advocate. Over 60 community partners and allies came up from the Central Valley, the Central Coast and Los Angeles to support a Climate Resiliency Bond.

Community partners and allies rallied on the capitol steps urging Governor Newsom for a Climate Bond on the November ballot.

CWC joins over 160 organizations demanding a Climate Bond to be put on the November ballot so Californians get a say in funding the protection of their environment. If passed, this Bond will fund solutions to growing issues like extreme heat, drought and floods. The California legislature has until June 27 to ensure a Climate Bond is on the ballot for voters this Fall — we can’t wait any longer.

Show your support for an equitable climate bond and visit the Climate Bond Now website for more information!

Community Partners Moving Legislation Forward

Community leaders from the Central Coast meeting with legislative staff.

Community members lived expertise is necessary when it comes to making decisions on our solutions for our drinking water crisis. Over 30 community partners from the Central Coast and Central Valley traveled to Sacramento to advocate for legislative priorities aimed at protecting drinking water.

Legislative members and staff were educated on how drinking water can be protected by the following bills:

  • AB 805 (Arambula) - SWB: Wastewater Administrator Authority.

  • SB 1255 (Durazo) - LIRA: Voluntary Contribution Framework. Approved by the full CA Senate.

  • ACA 16 (Bryan) - Constitutional Amendment: Right to Clean Air, Water & a Healthy Environment. Approved by the Appropriations committee and awaiting Assembly floor vote.

  • AB 2454 (Lee) - Tenant Rights: Well Testing. Approved by the full CA State Assembly.

  • AB 2079 (Bennett) - Bans new, high capacity well drilling within a quarter mile of domestic wells. Approved by the full Assembly.

This summer we will see these bills go through committee hearings so it is crucial we continue to show support for them. For updates on all our legislative priorities and more information on how these are advancing visit our website and stay tuned to our socials!

Thank you for Joining National Drinking Water Week!

Community partners in the Central Valley celebrated National Drinking Water Week with a water themed Loteria game

National Drinking Water week this past month was a success thanks to our participants and everyone who tuned in! We celebrated community leaders in the Central Coast and Central and held two panels to discuss how we address water affordability in California and nationwide.

Our first panel in English, America’s Drinking Water Affordability Crisis and How to Solve It, shared powerful messages on the nationwide fight for affordable drinking water. If you missed the diverse urban and rural perspectives across the country you can watch the conversation here.

Our second panel in Spanish, La Crisis Económica del Agua en California y la Solución, shed light on the California communities that make up the fight for statewide affordable drinking water. If you missed these local perspectives on how leaders are taking their experiences to shape affordability you can watch it here.

Can we count on you to share these important panel conversations on your socials to spread the message?
