Statement from Co-Founder and Executive Director Susana De Anda on Governor’s May 10, 2021 Drought Relief Announcement:
“Two years ago CWC and community partners celebrated the historic passage of the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund -- a campaign powered over many years by communities who had been denied access to water for decades. Governor Newsom joined hands with our communities -- and together, sí, se pudo. Today, Governor Newsom has joined hands with our communities yet again to respond to our growing drought emergency, to address our staggering water debt crisis, and to invest in finally bringing 21st century water infrastructure to ALL our communities.
“With drought conditions growing increasingly worse throughout our state, this comes at a critical time. The last drought left thousands of Central Valley residents without running water as their wells went dry, devastating families and communities. Governor Newsom’s leadership today on infrastructure and drought will help us avoid a repeat.
“Now let's get this passed and get to work!”
