2025 Water Justice Leadership Awards

Join Community Water Center’s 9th Annual Water Justice Leadership Awards on Wednesday, March 12th, at 5:30 p.m. at Cafeteria 15L 1116 15th St, Sacramento, CA.

We are excited to come together to recognize leaders who have worked tirelessly, often against great odds, to ensure the human right to safe drinking water in California.

The movement's determination has led to significant victories this year, including:

  • Making significant progress to advance eight safe drinking water infrastructure projects that will benefit more than 7,000 people

  • Passage of Prop 4, the $10 billion Climate Resilience Bond, which includes $610 million for safe drinking water projects

  • Passage of AB 805, which allows the State Water Board to take action to address failing wastewater systems

  • Passage of AB 2454 grants tenants the right to have domestic wells tested for contamination.

This year’s awardees include:

Legislative Champions

  • Senator Ben Allen for his leadership as Chair of the Environmental Quality Committee and his crucial role in the creation and passage of Prop 4

  • Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia for his role in the passage of Prop 4 and advocacy on the Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee

Community Leadership Awards

  • San Joaquin Valley: Martha and Esteban Curiel of Woodville for their advocacy across the local, state, and federal levels for more groundwater protection, nitrate pollution regulation, and water affordability.

  • Central Coast: Rosa Carrillo Orozco of the San Jerardo Cooperative for her exceptional leadership in mobilizing her community, advocating for Prop 4, nitrate pollution awareness, and multiple federal initiatives

Ally Organization

  • Central California Environmental Justice Network for its invaluable partnership in advancing AB 805 and amplifying environmental justice voices throughout California

Proceeds from events like the Water Justice Leadership Awards provide the resources needed for CWC to ensure communities are engaged, informed, and ready to act.
